Gophers Win Second Straight Big Ten Match

Minneapolis, Minn.- The No. 32-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team defeated the University of Iowa 5-2 and picked up their second consecutive conference victory. The Gophers returned to Baseline on Sunday and defeated the the Hawkeyes 5-2 to start a three-match homestand.
Doubles
The No. 69 ranked pair of Matic Spec and Felix Corwin picked up the first victory of the day for Minnesota, as they took down Josh Silverstein and Lefteris Theodorou 6-2.
The Gophers clinched the doubles point when Marino Alpeza and Josip Krstanovic picked up a 6-2 victory over Jake Jacoby and Robin Haden. Eli Ogilvy and Justyn Levin saw their set unfinished, but trailed 5-4 against Jonas Larsen and Kareem Allaf.
Singles
No. 80 Spec picked up the first singles victory for the Maroon & Gold as he took down Theodorou 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for his ninth win of the season. Corwin added a point for Minnesota when he beat Allaf 7-5, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles slot.
Ogilvy won the fourth and clinching point for the Gophers when he defeated Larsen 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. The Hawkeyes grabbed their first point of the day in the No. 6 slot as Jacoby took down Alpeza 6-3, 6-4.
Iowa added another point in the No. 3 singles slot as Silverstein took down Milicevic 6-3, 6-4. Minnesota grabbed the final point of the day at No. 5 singles when Krstanovic beat Haden 6-4, 3-6, 12-10 as a tiebreaker was used in place of the third set.
Minnesota improved to 13-4 on the year, and 2-1 in Big Ten Play with the 5-2 victory over the Hawkeyes. The homestand continues next weekend, when Illinois comes into town on Friday night, and Northwestern visits on Sunday afternoon.
