Gophers Fall to No. 2 Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio - The No. 31 University of Minnesota fell 6-1 to No. 2 Ohio State Friday in the Golden Gophers eighth Big Ten match of the season.
The Maroon and Gold are now 15-7 overall and 4-4 in the conference following the loss to the No. 2 team in the conference.
Doubles
The first doubles match of the evening to finish was the No. 2 spot where No. 26 Martin Joyce and Hugo Di Feo defeated Justyn Levin and Josip Krstanovic 6-2. This was the second time the two Gophers played doubles together this season, they are now 1-1.
The Buckeyes clinched the doubles point when Hunter Tubert and JJ Wolf took down Stefan Milicevic and Eli Ogilvy 6-2 in the No. 3 spot.
The No. 1 spot between No. 9 Mikael Torpegaard and Herkko Pollanen versus Felix Corwin and Matic Spec was left unfinished with the match tied 4-4.
Singles
Ohio State went up 2-0 when Kyle Seelig defeated Krstanovic 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 5 spot to kick-off the singles matches.
It was quickly 3-0 when No. 74 Matic Spec fell to No. 1 Torpegaard 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot. Spec is now 19-14 overall this season and 10-10 in the No. 1 spot during dual matches.
No. 7 Di Feo clinched the victory for the Buckeyes with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 3 spot over Milivevic. He is now 13-6 in dual matches and 18-8 overall.
Ohio State gained another point with a Martin Joyce 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Marino Alpeza in the No. 6 spot.
The lone Minnesota point came from the No. 2 position when Corwin defeated No. 65 Wolf 7-5, 7 (5). Corwin is now 14-7 in dual matches and 21-10 overall. It was his second victory over a nationally ranked opponent and is second straight win.
The night ended when No. 108 Herkko Pollanen defeated Eli Ogilvy in two tie-breakers. The first match finished 7-6 (3) while the second was 7-6 (8).
Up Next
The Maroon and Gold will travel to State College, Pa. where they will take on Penn State for the final road conference match with it scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. central time.
