Gophers End Final Road Match With Loss

Minneapolis, Minn. - The No. 31-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team fell 5-2 to Penn State on Sunday afternoon. In the final road match of the season, the Gophers came up short as they move to 4-5 in conference play.
Doubles
The afternoon started with the doubles point going to the Nittany Lions. Penn State's Christos Antonopoulos and David Kohan fell to Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to start the day.
PSU won the doubles point when Christian Lutschaunig and Nika Dolidze defeated Stefan Milicevic and Eli Ogilvy 7-5 in the No. 3 slot. The No. 55-ranked pair of Constant De La Bassetiere and Christian Lakoseljac also took down Matic Spec and Felix Corwin 7-6 in the top slot..
Singles
The first singles point went to Penn State at No. 5 singles as Ben Lieb took down Krstanovic 6-0, 6-1. The Nittany Lions earned their third point of the match when Aws Laaribi defeated Ogilvy 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4 singles.
Minnesota got on the board when Marino Alpeza won his match 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 against Marc Collado in the No. 6 slot. The Gophers added another point when Corwin defeated Lakoseljac 7-6, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
The match was clinched by Penn State when Antonopoulos defeated Milicevic 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. Spec also fell at No. 1 singles as Bassetiere beat him 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
Moving Forward
The Gophers fell to 4-5 in the Big Ten and now hold a record of 15-8 on the season. Their final homestand next weekend features the Purdue Boilermakers at 3 p.m. on Friday and the Indiana Hoosiers at noon on Sunday. The Big Ten Tournament starts April 27 in West Lafayette, Ind.
