Minneapolis, Minn. - The No. 33-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team fell 4-3 to Purdue on Friday afternoon. In the return home to the outdoor courts at Baseline, the Gophers started the afternoon strong but could not pull out a victory.

Doubles
The afternoon started with the doubles point going to the Maroon & Gold. Purdue grabbed the first set as Stefan Milicevic and Eli Ogilvy fell 6-1 to Ricky Medinilla and Stephan Koenigsfest in the No. 2 slot.

Minnesota bounced back with a win at No. 3 doubles as Justyn Levin and Marino Alpeza defeated Gergely Madarasz and Athell Bennett 6-3. The point was clinched by the Gophers when Matic Spec and Felix Corwin took down Benjamin Ugarte and Renan Hanayama 6-4 in the top slot.

Singles
Purdue evened the match as they picked up a win at No. 4 singles. Ogilvy fell to Koenigsfest 6-3, 6-3 before the visitors would pick up another win in the top singles slot. At No. 1, Corwin dropped his match to No. 97 Madarasz 6-4, 6-4.

The Boilermakers added another point at No. 5 singles as Alpeza lost to Hanayama 6-4, 6-4. No. 68 Spec was the first player to add a point on the singles side for the Gophers, as he defeated Medinilla 7-6(6), 6-4.

Down 3-2, the Gophers needed wins in the final two matches to secure a victory. Milicevic and Levin both fell in their first set, but battled back to force a third set. Levin was the first to finish, as he fell to Bennett at No. 6 singles by a score of 7-6(4), 4-6, 6-1.

Although Purdue clinched the victory, Milicevic continued to battle and came out on top at No. 3 singles. The freshman defeated Ugarte 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 to end the singles matches.

Moving Forward
The Gophers move to 4-6 in the Big Ten and now hold a record of 15-9 on the season. Their final match of the regular season is on Sunday against the Indiana Hoosiers. The match will start at noon, and senior Jeremy Lynn will be honored in his last home match as a Gopher. The Big Ten Tournament starts April 27 in West Lafayette, Ind.
