Gophers Fall to Ohio State in B1G Tournament

West Lafayette, Ind.- The No. 38-ranked University of Minnesota men's tennis team fell 4-0 to the No. 2-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes on Friday morning. With the loss, the Gophers are eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament.
Doubles
The morning started with Ohio State capturing the doubles point. The pair of Eli Ogilvy and Stefan Milicevic fell 6-1 to Hunter Tubert and JJ Wolf at No. 3 doubles. Soon after, Josip Krstanovic and Justyn Levin dropped their set 6-3 to Martin Joyce and Hugo Di Feo at No. 2 doubles to give Ohio State the first point of the match.
Matic Spec and Felix Corwin saw their match go unfinished as they trailed Mikael Torpeggard and Herkko Pollanen 4-3 in the top doubles slot.
Singles
Corwin was the first to finish for the Gophers as he fell 6-4, 6-2 to No. 2-ranked Torpegaard in the top singles slot. Kyle Seelig then defeated Levin 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 singles to give the Buckeyes a 3-0 lead.
The Buckeyes clinched the victory when No. 41 Wolf took down No. 70 Spec 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 singles in a match where both players were ranked. Milicevic won his first set 6-4 but saw his match go unfinished as he led #9 Di Feo 6-4, 3-5 at No. 3 singles.
Krstanovic also won his first set 6-4 before losing his second set 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The third set was not played as the match was clinched prior to completion. Ogilvy's match was also unfinished as he trailed 6-4 but led in the second set 5-4 versus Joyce in the No. 4 slot.
Coach Geoff Young gave credit to Ohio State following the match, but noted his team will work to improve in some areas.
"They are No. 2 in the country and deservingly so, they are really good players. They do all the little things well so we have to learn from it," Young said. "We just have to keep working on the little things because it is different for every player up and down the lineup. I am sure we will get after it the next two weeks."
