Five to open fall tournament season this week

The University of Minnesota will be represented by five Men's Tennis athletes this week as the Gophers split time between a pair of high level tournaments beginning Thursday.
Gopher Participants
Senior Matic Spec will compete at the Oracle ITA Masters beginning Thursday in Malibu, California. The 32-athlete tournament features three of the top-15 players in the country per the Oracle ITA Division I Men's Singles Rankings announced last week. Spec ranked 39th in the nation according to the same poll.
Four additional Gophers ââ'¬" rookie Jackson Allen, senior Felix Corwin, junior Josip Krstanovic, and sophomore Stefan Milicevic ââ'¬" will be in action across the border at the 42nd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic. Another 32-athlete singles field with doubles action alongside, the Milwaukee TC men's tournament will take place at the Western Racquet Club.
Oracle ITA Masters ââ'¬" Tournament Format
The singles tournament matches will include best 2-out-of-3 sets with each set to six games and a tiebreak at 6-all. All athletes will be guaranteed at least two singles matches with a first round consolation draw.
Competitors will also compete in a mixed doubles tournament, each duo representing their respective conferences with assorted at-large teams, one set to six games with a tiebreak at 6-all until the championship match. The Sunday doubles title match will be an 8-game professional set with a tiebreak at 7-all. Spec will likely join Ohio State's Anna Sanford for the tournament.
Milwaukee Tennis Classic - Tournament Format
After a morning of singles qualifying matches on Thursday morning, the Milwaukee TC men's doubles tournament will begin Thursday afternoon. The round of 32 and sweet 16 rounds for singles matches begins Thursday at 8 a.m. with back draw matches to follow. Each competitor is guaranteed two matches. Saturday will include the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds for both singles and doubles with the finals taking place on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday.
