MILWAUKEE - While Gopher Men's Tennis represented well at the 42nd Annual Milwaukee Tennis Classic with appearances in both the singles and doubles finals on Sunday afternoon, the University of Minnesota would not bring the championships back across the border.

Senior Felix Corwin, competing in front of his hometown, competed in both finals matches on the day. First, he battled Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech, falling in three sets 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Later in the afternoon, Corwin and freshman Jackson Allen fell 8-1 in the doubles final to Jacob Nicolussi and Michael Weindl of Old Dominion, the same duo that ousted the Maroon & Gold's duo of junior Josip Krstanovic and sophomore Stefan Milicevic in the opening round of the tournament on Thursday evening.

"It's easy to think it was a disappointment because we lost both matches today, but it really wasn't," said head coach Geoff Young after the doubles final. "We had barely started practicing full time. We just came here to have some matches and get an indicator of where we are at and a reminder of what we need to work on. I think we all go home eager to get on the court and try to improve."

Most of the Gophers will have time to work in the weeks ahead as the team prepares to host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Championship next month at Baseline Tennis Center. For Corwin and senior Matic Spec, the next stop will be the ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Pasadena, California from October 2-9.
