Gopher Men's Tennis Reveals 2017-18 Schedule

MINNEAPOLIS - 2017-18 Men's Tennis Schedule

The University of Minnesota men's tennis team announced Thursday its 2017-18 schedule with tournament play opening later this month. The Gophers, ranked no. 39 in the final Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's Collegiate Tennis Rankings, will host a pair of tournaments in the fall and ten match-ups in the spring at Baseline Tennis Center.

On the weekend of Sept. 21-24, Minnesota will split between a pair of tournaments, appearing at both the Milwaukee Classic in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and the Oracle ITA Masters in Malibu, California. After turning the calendar to October, the Gophers will head to the ITA All-American tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma during the week of Oct. 2-8. Later that month, the Maroon and Gold host their first of two tournaments as the ITA Regional comes to Minneapolis the weekend of Oct. 19-23. The Gopher Invitational will take over Baseline the weekend of Nov. 3-5.

The season's second half begins in Minneapolis as Minnesota welcomes NC State on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Gophers take on their first ranked competition of the spring at the ITA Kickoff the following weekend in a quad against no. 11 Texas, no. 43 Tennessee, and no. 50 Notre Dame. In total, Minnesota takes on nine teams ranked in the final 2016-17 top-50 and five in the top-25. The first ITA rankings of the 2017-18 regular season will be revealed on Sept. 12.

In February, the Maroon & Gold host four matches beginning on Friday, Feb. 2 as they host Sacramento State. No. 28 Wisconsin will come to Baseline for a border battle on Saturday, Feb. 17. Drake and Penn will be on campus the weekend of Feb. 23-25 for a three-day triangular. Between those dates, the team will travel to take on Dartmouth and no. 44 Rice on Feb. 9-10 in Hanover, New Hampshire.

Minnesota will spend most of the month of March on the road, travel to Seattle to take on Washington on Friday, Mar. 2 then hop across to Oregon on Sunday to take on no. 48 Portland. The Gophers will head to Orlando on Wednesday, Mar. 14 to take on no. 33 Central Florida. The U of M gets back into Big Ten conference play on Friday, Mar. 23 against Iowa. The team finally returns home that Sunday to host Nebraska and a week later faces a tough task as no. 4 Ohio State arrives at the Baseline on Friday, Mar. 30.

The season wraps in the month of April as Minnesota splits its time at home and on the road to conclude Big Ten plan. Three of its final four road match-ups will feature ranked competition with no. 41 Purdue on Sunday, April 8, no. 20 Northwestern on Friday, April 20, and no. 25 Illinois on Sunday, April 22. The Gophers will host Penn State on Sunday, April 1 and enjoy their final home weekend against Michigan State on Friday, April 13 and no. 17 Michigan on Sunday, April 15.

The conference season concludes with the Big Ten Tournament in Iowa City, Iowa on Thursday-Sunday, April 26-29. Minnesota will hope to represent at the 2018 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships hosted by Wake Forest on May 17-28 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
