`U' Wins Eight Titles at Jack Johnson

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program picked up eight event titles on Saturday at the Jack Johnson Classic as the Maroon & Gold hosted the annual event at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse.
The Maroon & Gold were led by a 1-2 finish in the heptathlon by Teddy Frid and John Uchytil, who both posted personal records in the seven-event competition. Frid led the way with 5,581 points - a point total that ranks 10th all-time at Minnesota - as the junior led four of seven events over the weekend. Uchytil wasn't far behind his teammate, finishing second with 5,048 points after a strong second day of competition.
Frid set a new meet record to win the 60-meter hurdles (8.12) and also paced the field in 60 meters (7.15), the long jump (6.85 meters, 22-05.75 ft.) and the high jump (1.97 meters, 6-05.50 ft.) while Uchytil led the pole vault (4.90 meters, 16-00.75 ft.).
In the 60-meter hurdles, Eric Walker posted a new personal record in the preliminaries at 8.14 before winning the finals at 8.17 later in the day.
In the 60 meters, Jonathan Webb edged unattached rookie Zach Nelson for the event crown with Webb clocking a 6.80 to Nelson's 6.82. The unattached freshman would go on to win the 200 meters with a time of 22.32.
Meanwhile, the Maroon & Gold added a pair of event titles in the jumps as Ryan Lockard claimed the high jump at 2.14 meters (7-00.25 ft.) and Sammie Houston won the triple jump at 14.40 meters (47-03.00 ft.).
Minnesota closed out the meet with a win in the 4x400 meter relay as Matthew Baker, Clayton Johnson, Mason Roomes and Brad Neumann led the field with a winning time of 3:21.52.
Lucas Trapp added a second title for Minnesota's contingency of unattached freshmen when he won the 800 meters at 1:52.94.
Minnesota also picked up a number of personal records on Saturday including four in the mile from Owen Hoeft (4:12.13), Jack Manderscheid (4:12.40), Hunter Staack (4:19.28) and Jordan MacIntosh (4:21.10). Personal records were plentiful in the throwing events with Kieran McKeag adding two on his own with 16.41 meters (53-10.25 ft.) in the shot put and 19.76 meters (64-10.00 ft.) in the weight throw. Connor Rousemiller (19.63 meters, 64-05.00 ft.) and Jon Nerdal (18.95 meters, 62-02.25 ft.) added personal records in the weight throw.
The Gophers are back in action next weekend with Michigan's Power 5 Invitational in Ann Arbor.
