MINNEAPOLIS – Posting the second lowest score of the round, the Minnesota men's golf team ended the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate, and its fall season, on a high note Tuesday afternoon in Carrollton, Texas.

Playing at Maridoe Golf Club, the Golden Gophers posted an eight-over par score of 288 in Tuesday's final round to jump up four spots from their position after round two to grab ninth place. Only tournament-champion and defending national champion Oklahoma State had a lower score in the final round with a one-over 281.

Sophomore Angus Flanagan used an even-par 70 in the final round to post a team-best tie for 28th. It was the third time this fall that he was the Gophers' top finisher. Starting on the fifth hole, Flanagan was one-over through nine holes, but birdies on Nos. 14 and 16 got him into the red at one-under. A bogey on the final hole dropped him to even, giving him an 11-over par score of 221.

Junior Noah Rasinski was two strokes back of Flanagan and tied for 36th. Rasinski was five-over Tuesday with a 75, putting him at 223 for the tournament.

Freshman Lincoln Johnson had his best round of the tournament with a final round 73. Finishing alone in 52nd, Johnson was 18-over with a 228. He had two birdies in his round, both of which came in the first 11 holes.

Like Flanagan, senior Peter Jones also used an even-par 70 in the final round to finish the tournament on a strong note. Starting on the fifth hole like the rest of the team, he birded two of his first four holes, while bogeys on No. 12 and No. 3 brought him back to even par. Jones finished in 68th place at 235.

Sophomore Evan Long finished one spot and one stroke behind Jones as he carded a 236 to claim 69thĀ place.

In addition to the team title, Oklahoma State also boasted two of the three golfers who tied for the individual crown. Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff of Oklahoma State and Clay Feagler of Pepperdine all shot a four-under 206.

The Royal Oaks Intercollegiate marked the fifth and final fall tournament for Minnesota, with four of them resulting in top-10 finishes. The Golden Gophers are back in action Feb. 8-9 for the Big Ten Match Play in Palm Coast, Fla. It will be the first of five regular season tournaments in the spring for Minnesota.
