Pack the Pool

Saturday's meet will serve as the Gopher's "Pack the Pool" event for the season. Fans will have a chance to win a special Minnesota swim and dive t-shirt, meet Goldy, purchase Maroon & Gold gear, and cheer on the Gophers.

The Matchups

Women| No. 16 Minnesota (0-2, 0-1 Big Ten) vs. Iowa (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) and SDSU (4-3).

The Gophers have been edged in their first two duals of the season against Wisconsin and Florida State, but are trending up after several outstanding individual performances in the early season. Chantal Nack is coming off of a three-win dual against the Seminoles, touching first in the 200 free (1:48.07), the 200 back (157.75), and the 200 IM (2:02.11). Mackenzie Padignton won the 1,650 freestyle (16:33.14) and 500 freestyle (4:53.61), setting the national mark in the mile. On the boards, Kristen Hayden swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events in Wisconsin with Mariam Khamis taking the 1-meter title against Florida State. Both divers have qualified for NCAA Zones.

Iowa are 1-0 on the season with a win over Michigan State and finished fourth at the SMU Classic. SDSU have picked up multiple early season wins but most recently fell to Iowa State a week ago.

Men | No. 20 Minnesota (1-1, 0-1 Big Ten) vs. Iowa (1-0, 1-0 Big Ten) and SDSU (2-0).

The Gophers defeated Florida State in their first home dual of the season last Saturday. The Men won 11 of the 16 events on their way to a 181-119 victory. Bowe Becker posted the nation's top time in the 50 free, touching in 19.77, and won the 100 free in 44.78. Tim Sates, Cameron Kelly and Michael Messner kept the freestyle group rolling, winning the 200, 500, and 1,650 respectively. Max McHugh won three individual events including the 100 and 200 breast. Alan LeBlang and Matthew Thomas rounded out the Gophers individual first-place winners in the 3-meter and 200 fly events.

Iowa have only taken part in a single dual meet at this point in the season, defeating Michigan State in their first contest of the year on Sept. 28 by a score of 193-98. SDSU are currently 2-0 with wins over Valparaiso and Western Illinois.

Big Ten Recognition

Minnesota have taken home six individual Big Ten honors in their first two weeks of competition. Hayden, Khamis, and Nick Yang have each garnered Diver of the Week honors. Yang has now won two Diver of the Week awards in his career while Hayden and Khamis are first time recipients after their performances against Wisconsin and Florida State respectively.

Max McHugh was recognized as the Big Ten Freshman of the week for the second time this season after winning the 100-yard breaststroke (54.12), 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.34), the 200 IM (1:52.57) and 200 medley relay (1:27.63) against Florida State. Abbey Kilgallon earned her first career Freshman of the week award after setting the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 1,650 freestyle (17:00.57) against the Seminoles.
