Gophers Earn Podium Finish in Princeton and Sweep in Minneapolis

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Gopher Rowing team saw plenty of success in splitting to a pair of races across the country this weekend, with Minnesota's top Varsity 8+ boat earning a third-place finish in the stacked field at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase.
 
The Maroon & Gold finished at 15:02.294, just 18 seconds behind the leaders from Princeton with a time of 14:44.560, and only six seconds behind Brown's second-place boat. The line-up included coxswain Elyse Terlion, Rylie Wargo, Sara Nelson, Whitney Holm, Christina Anderson, Sarah Von der Goltz, Lindsay Eliasen, Abby Rieser, and Lauren Burrows-Cheng.
 
Minnesota finished sixth in the Varsity 4+ at 17:37.024. The hosts from Princeton took the pole position at 16:43.770
 
The rest of the Gophers team competed at Saturday's North Star Regatta in Minneapolis. Minnesota swept first-place finishes in the Collegiate Novice Women's 8+, Collegiate Women's 4+, and the Collegiate Women's 8+.
 
The Maroon & Gold swept the podium in the Collegiate 4+, led by the boat of coxswain Megan Clark, Melissa Wiebke, Katie VanCamp, Natalie Stratton, and Lizsy Hiebel, with a time of 18:40. The boat of coxswain Gabrielle Tripps, Natalie Lorca, Savannah Spahr, Allie Schmidt, and Sarah Reimann finished second at 19:01. Rounding out the field at 19:48 was coxswain Sydney Large, Samantha Rollay, Brooke Watland, Sophia Thuente, and Maura Maguire.
 
In the Women's 8+, Minnesota's two boats finished both first and second. Clark, Wiebke, VanCamp, Stratton, Lorca, Spahr, Schmidt, Reimann, and Hiebel earned a first place finish at 16:41. The second-place finishers were coxswain Annie McNamara, Rollay, Watland, Emma Jo Elder, Erika Guenther, Natalie Steine, Taylor Gilbertson, Christina McBride, and Maguire at 17:56.
 
The novices finished first and third in their race. Minnesota's A boat led the way at 18:47, while the B boat took bronze at 19:48.
