MINNEAPOLIS – The Gopher Rowing team enjoyed its lone home action of the season on Saturday morning at the Head of the Mississippi, hosted by the Minneapolis Rowing Club.
Minnesota dominated in 3-of-4 races on the day, sweeping the podium in the Collegiate 4+ to start the day and taking the top two positions in the Novice 8+ and the Collegiate 8+.
The line-up of Rylie Wargo, Katie VanCamp, Lauren Burrows-Cheng, Whitney Holm, and coxswain Gabrielle Tripps took top honors in the first race of the day, finishing at 20:27.531. The second boat with Lindsay Eliasen, Allie Schmidt, Melissa Wiebke, Savannah Spahr, and coxswain Megan Clark nearly matched their effort, just 0.380 of a second off their pace. Third place went to the Gophers' line-up of Sarah Reimann, Sarah Von der Goltz, Sara Nelson, Sarah Weyrauch, and coxswain Annie McNamara, which finished at 20:31.61, just four seconds back.
The novices saw their first collegiate action next and took the top two spots on the podium. Saskia Dammersmith, Amanda Russell, Bronwnyn Ziemann, Sydney Romsos, Maddie Mainwood, Morgan Kelly, Gina Kalkar, Savannah Kjaer and coxswain Sarah Glasser paced Minnesota at 22:09.779 in that race.
The Varsity 8s would need to wait until the early afternoon to compete but made it worth the wait.
