The University of Minnesota was buzzing in September 2018 with a number of high-profile Gopher greats back on campus. One of those greats was Tony Dungy. He was in town to present his Pro Football Hall of Fame commemorative plaque to the university.

Also, on campus was the newest class of "M" Club Hall of Fame inductees. Heather (Dorniden) Kampf of Women's Track and Field, Damion Hahn of Wrestling, Laurence Maroney of Football, James McLean of Men's Golf, Pam (Miller) Dombeck of Volleyball, Chris Paulos of Softball and Field Hockey, Jim Peterson of Men's Gymnastics, and Justin Smith of Men's Golf made up the Class of 2018 Hall of Fame inductees. Unfortunately, Jim Peterson of Men's Gymnastics passed away in 2007 and was not present for the week's activities. His legacy as a tremendous Gopher athlete lives on with his induction into the "M" Club Hall of Fame.  During a break in play at the Gopher Football game on September 15th, 2018, the seven present Hall of Fame inductees were honored on the field and accompanied by thunderous applause.

The football game concluded a full week of events and activities to celebrate the inductees. The week began on Wednesday, September 12th with a luncheon for the Hall of Fame inductees at TCF Bank Stadium. They were welcomed back to campus by Mark Coyle, Athletic Director, Quincy Lewis, "M" Club Director, and Peyton N. Owens III, Senior Associate Athletics Director of Leadership Development and Strategic Partnerships. TCF Bank Stadium, completed in 2009, was not present when any of these Hall of Fame inductees were student-athletes on campus so it was exciting for them to eat lunch in the President's Suite and take in the top floor views at the stadium.

Thursday night, September 13th, they returned to TCF Bank Stadium for their official induction into the Hall of Fame. Each inductee was introduced alongside a video chronicling their time as a Gopher. They were welcomed on stage and interviewed by Mike Grimm, voice of Gopher Football and Men's Basketball. The inductees shared their favorite memories, how they use their experiences as student-athletes in their everyday life, and what they are up to now. The night ended with a tribute to all eight Hall of Fame inductees in a special video you can watch below.

Friday, September 14th, the inductees had the chance to live like student-athletes in 2018. Their day started with a breakfast in the new Nutrition Center located in the Athletes Village. The inductees took advantage of the opportunity to dine on freshly made omelettes, unlimited coffee, and use the waffle making station. After breakfast they had the chance to tour the entire Athletes Village. They were in awe of the new facilities and amenities student-athletes now have access to. The fun continued on Saturday, September 15th as they made their way back to the Athletes Village for a special tailgate experience in the courtyard ahead of the Gopher Football game.

It was an honor to have these Hall of Fame inductees back on campus to celebrate their excellence and remember their incredible achievements.
