Freshman Spotlight: Garrett Kasiski

The next freshman to be featured in our series is Garret Kasiski. Kasiski is a native of Chesapeake, Va. He graduated from Indian River High School and competed for Gymstrada. He was a JO National Qualifier from 2015-17. In 2017 he took second place on floor, fifth on still rings, sixth on vault, fifth on high bar and was third in the all-around. In the 2016-17 season he was named Most Valuable Level 10 Gymnast. He was also a USA Gymnastics Academic All-American three straight years and a member of his high school's National Honor Society.

Garrett Kasiski: It's been great. The upperclassmen have been really accepting of all the freshman, and the team is getting along great.
GS: What are you most looking forward to in your first school year and season?
GK: I'm just looking forward to start competing with my teammates.
GS: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
GK: I chose the U because when I came on my visit, the team was so welcoming and they were all so close. It felt like a family and I wanted to be a part of it.
GS: How did you get into gymnastics?
GK: When I was really young my mom enrolled me in a recreational class because I kept flipping around the house.
GS: What is your favorite gymnastics memory?
GK: My favorite gymnastics memory is making nationals for the first time.
GS: What are your hobbies outside of gymnastics?
GK: I like to go to the beach and hang out with friends.
GS: What is one thing Gopher fans should know about you?
GK: I get really hype after hit sets, so I'll be looking for the crowd to get hype with me.
