`U' Earns Three Titles at ISU Classic

AMES, Iowa - The University of Minnesota men's track & field program picked up three event titles on Saturday as the Maroon & Gold closed out competition at the Iowa State Classic, held at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center.
The Gophers picked up wins in the long jump, the triple jump and the 4x400 as they head into the final home meet of the 2018 schedule next Friday with the Snowshoe Open at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on campus.
Ryan Lockard continues to climb Minnesota's all-time top-10 list in the high jump as the All-American picked up the event crown on Saturday with a personal record of 2.21 meters (7-03.00 ft.). After taking sole possession of sixth in the Minnesota record books last week in Michigan, Lockard moved into a four-way tie for third with the Gophers' best jump since 2009. Only Staffan Strand and Chris Murrell have cleared higher bars in University of Minnesota indoor history. Ben Gucinski finished sixth at 2.01 meters (6-07.00 ft.).
The Gophers added another victory in the field events as Sammie Houston picked up the win in the triple jump with a personal record of 14.89 meters (48-10.25 ft.). James Travis finished third at 14.26 meters (46-09.50 ft.).
The Maroon & Gold closed out the Iowa State Classic with a win in the 4x400 meters as Minnesota picked up a season-best mark for the second-straight weekend. The team of Jonathan Webb, Matthew Baker, Ben Psicihulis and Jackson Wellenstein ran 3:07.93 to pace the field. Wellenstein, Psicihulis and Baker also added top-10 finishes in the 400 meters with Wellenstein coming in third at 47.13, Psicihulis finishing fourth at 48.08 and Baker clocking a 48.51 to finish 10th.
The group of Clayton Johnson, Mason Roomes, Jon Tollefson and Brad Neumann added a 10th-place showing at 3:19.80.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Webb finished third in the 60-meter dash at 6.78 - a new personal record that moves him up to a tie for fifth all-time at Minnesota. Cory Mensah was seventh at 7.00. Shane Streich finished eighth in the mile at 4:04.81.
