Frid Hits Two PRs to Open NCAA Meet

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Teddy Frid opened the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships for the Gopher men's track & field program by recording a pair of personal records in the heptathlon on Friday at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
Through four events (60 meters, long jump, shot put, high jump), Frid sits in 16th with 3,028 points in his first appearance at the Division I national championships with three remaining events (60-meter hurdles, pole vault, 1,000 meters) on Saturday.
A native of South St. Paul, Minn., and a two-time Division II All-American for the University of Sioux Falls, Frid opened and closed the opening day of competition with personal records. He kicked off the day with a personal record of 7.10 in the 60 meters for 847 points before recording 781 points in the long jump at 6.86 meters (22-06.25 ft.) and 606 points in the shot put at 12.00 meters (39-04.50 ft.). Frid capped the day with another personal record - this time in the high jump - clearing 1.99 meters (6-06.25 ft.) for 794 points.
Frid will close out the heptathlon on Saturday at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. He'll be joined by Ryan Lockard in the high jump and the 4x400 meter relay team of Jonathan Webb, Ben Psicihulis, Matthew Baker and Jackson Wellenstein.
