No. 36 Gophers Dominate Michigan State on Friday

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. ââ'¬" The Gopher Men's Tennis team made quick work of Michigan State as the team returned to Baseline Tennis Center with an 7-0 Big Ten victory on Friday afternoon.
No. 36 Minnesota (13-6, 6-2 Big Ten) clinched the victory in just under 90 minutes against the Spartans. The Gophers controlled doubles play, holding set point on each court when they claimed the point thanks to victories on #2 by Matic Spec and Eli Ogilvy, 6-3 over Jasper Koenen and Josh Mukheriee and at #3 by Stefan Milicevic and Marino Alpeza, 6-2 over John Carlin and Michael Dube.
Milicevic rolled that momentum into a dominating 6-1, 6-0 victory over Dube at #3 singles to get things started with his sixth-consecutive singles win. Felix Corwin then wrapped up a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Brett Forman, the second time the two have played this season after meeting this past fall at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, another victory for Corwin. Josip Krstanovic continued his recent string of success at the #4 position, picking up a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Koenen to clinch the victory over Michigan State (8-15, 1-7 Big Ten)
Matic Spec won his seventh-straight decision, 6-1, 6-3, at #2 singles over Mukherjee to give the Gophers a 5-0 lead. Rookie Jackson Allen won his second-straight at #5, defeating Carlin 6-1, 6-4. After a back-and-forth first set, Eli Ogilvy rolled in the second set to give Minnesota a clean sweep with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Jack Winkler.
"We're especially tough inside this building," said head coach Geoff Young after the match. "It seems to be that way. 'Surprised' isn't the right word because I always expect them come out the right way, but today they did it. They played well and the shots fell in our favor. It was fun to watch."
