BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Gopher Men's Tennis team could not complete the comeback against Indiana, falling 4-3 at the IU Tennis Center on Friday night.
No. 31 Minnesota (11-6, 4-2 Big Ten) stumbled for the first time on the road in conference play as Indiana (10-10, 3-3 Big Ten) edged out a victory in the final decision of the day.
The Gophers claimed the first victory of doubles play as Eli Ogilvy and Matic Spec continued their growth as a pair, winning 6-2, but the Hoosiers would go on to win the final two decisions to claim the point and start singles play with a 1-0 lead.
Minnesota would claim first-set victories in each of the top-three singles positions, but needed a bounce-back on the bottom of the line-up in order to stay alive. Their top three singles took care of business, as No. 86 Matic Spec defeated Antonio Cembellin, 6-3, 6-2 and No. 101 Felix Corwin defeated Raheel Manji, 6-2, 6-4 to give the Gophers a lead. Indiana held serve at both #4 and #5 singles positions to regain the advantage.
No. 95 Stefan Milicevic won a tiebreaker in the second set to walk away with a 6-1, 7-6 (8) victory on the day and pull Minnesota even. Vlad Lobak gave Minnesota the chance it needed as he rebounded to force a third set at #6 singles, but he was edged out in the final set, falling 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in a valiant effort.
