MINNEAPOLIS - Senior Felix Corwin begins his quest for an NCAA Singles Championship on Wednesday at Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.
Corwin, most recently ranked No. 53 in the nation, will take on No. 117 Aziz Kijametovic of Old Dominion in the round of 64. Opening serve is set for 12 p.m. ET.
Corwin is 26-8 on the year, including a 16-5 mark at the #1 singles position during the spring. He has six victories over nationally ranked competition already this season. Corwin earned the ITA's Central Region Most Improver Senior Award on Monday and received All-Big Ten First Team Honors for the first time in his career.
Kijametovic earned Conference USA's Player of the Year honor and landed on the league's First Team All-Conference this year. In addition to being ranked in the top 120 in single play, he is also ranked with two doubles partners. He posted a 21-9 singles record this year, including 13-6 in the spring while going 3-3 against ranked competition.
Fittingly, Corwin and Kijametovic matched up at the beginning of the season in doubles play at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic Sept. 21-23. Corwin and Jackson Allen defeated Kijametovic and Javier Jover Maestre 8-5 in the opening round of the tournament.
Minnesota's most recent participant in the singles tournament was Leandro Toledo in 2015.
The victor advances to the round of 32 where he will match up with the winner between Stanford's No. 9 Tom Fawcett and No. 23 Giovanni Oradini of Mississippi State on Thursday.
