MINNEAPOLIS - The Gophers men's golf team closed out its first road trip of the season Sunday with the third and final round of the Maui Jim Intercollegiate at Mirabel Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Minnesota moved up one spot from Saturday to finish 12th in the tournament with a final score of 843, three-over par. Georgia Tech climbed two spots on Sunday to take the team crown and finish with a score of 812, 28-under par. Clemson's Bryson Nimmer finished first on the individual leaderboard with a score of 195, 15-under par.

Sophomore Angus Flanagan led the way for the Gophers in the tournament for the second year in a row. Flanagan started the day tied for eighth place, but faced adversity early when he suffered a triple bogey on his second hole. He bounced back with a birdie on No. 14 to gain a stroke back, but lost two early on the front nine. He made them up with two more birdies, but a bogey in between put him at three-over par for the day with a 73. He still finished three-under overall with a 207, which is a new personal best for 54 holes, and placed within a trio tied for 24th.

Junior Thomas Longbella finished second among the Gophers and yet again provided consistency for the team all day in his best round of the weekend. He carded a birdie on his third hole of the round, but then lost two strokes to go one-over par. Nonetheless, he shot par on the next eight holes before closing out with two birdies in his last three holes. He finished at one-under par with a 69 for the round and a 209 for the tournament. He jumped nine spots on the leaderboard in a five-way tie for 30th place.

Freshman Lincoln Johnson started strong with a birdie on his second hole, but found himself one-over by the time he closed out the back nine. He added three more strokes on the front, but managed a birdie and a par on the final two holes of the tournament. His solid first round helped to place him third among Minnesota players, and his final score of 212 put him in a tie for 43rd place with four others.

Sophomore Evan Long surged in the standings on Sunday after a tough two rounds. He was two strokes over par in his first four holes of the day, but scored birdies on four of the next five to go two-under. He countered a later bogey with another birdie and finished with an even 70 on the day. It was his best round of the tournament and set a new personal record. He moved up eight spots with a final mark of 215, five-over par, in a five-way tie for 56th place.

Junior Noah Rasinski was four-over par on the back nine and added three more strokes in the first holes of the front. He settled in to par five of the six holes left and recorded a birdie on No. 7. He finished the day with a 76, matching his Saturday score for a total of 224, 14-over par. Rasinski came in 74th.

Redshirt sophomore Gus Minkin completed his third round as an individual competitor with a 75. He carded a birdie on No. 5 and ended up finishing five-over par for the day. He recorded a 221 for the tournament, which put him in a tie for 70th.

The Gophers will return to action on Sept. 30 when they travel to Erin, Wis., for the Marquette Intercollegiate.
