Next up in our Freshman Spotlight series is Eric Nakamura. Nakamura is a native of San Diego, Calif. He graduated from Westview Highschool and competed for SCEGA. He was the 2016 Region 1 vault champion and took 7th on rings at the 2018 JO Nationals. He is also a 3-time Academic All-American.

Eric Nakamura: It has been the most stressful, but exciting time of my life.
GS: What are you most looking forward to in your first school year and season?
EN: Winning and thriving.
GS: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
EN: 'Cause I like the cold.
GS: How did you get into gymnastics?
EN: I watched Star Wars and wanted to do flips.
GS: What is your favorite gymnastics memory?
EN: Sticking.
GS: What are your hobbies outside of gymnastics?
EN: I like making goofy videos.
GS: What is one thing Gopher fans should know about you?
EN: If you dance, I'll dance. And if you don't dance… I'll still dance.
