On Friday, October 4th, 2019 the "M" Club celebrated the class of 1969 and their 50th year anniversary since receiving their Varsity Letter as a Golden Gopher. Former student-athletes representing a wide range of sports were in attendance. With the birth of the women's athletic department in 1974 and the merger of athletic departments in 2002, these letterwinners experienced a university and athletic department extremely different from the one known today.
50-Year letterwinners were given a plus one to attend a special ceremony at TCF Bank Stadium inside the "M" Club Room to present the 50-year pins; a 50-year diamond "M" Club pin to honor and signify the longstanding affiliation as a "M" Club member. Laughter, long overdue hugs, and memories flooded the room as guests arrived. The luncheon ceremony was a throwback to the year 1969 featuring a '69 inspired meal featuring Chicken a la King and hits from 1969 playing in the background. "M" Club Director, Quincy Lewis, led the program with a few words to the 50-Year honorees. Lewis shined light on the everlasting legacy left by these former student-athletes. Lewis thanked the letterwinners for their contributions and began the presentation of the 50-year pins.
Each letterwinner accepted their pin and was given a couple of moments to speak to their peers. Letterwinners reminisced on their time at the University of Minnesota as student-athletes and thanked the University and athletics for all that it gave them.
The "M" Club and University of Minnesota Athletics are proud to recognize these 1969 letterwinners and their accomplishments.
