Pitts Placed on B1G Weekly Honor Roll

With a pair of 20-point outings, Minnesota sophomore Destiny Pitts has been named to the Big Ten Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. Pitts averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last week as Minnesota ran its win streak to six games with wins at Purdue and at home against Penn State.

Thursday at Purdue, Pitts led all scorers with 27 points in a 65-45 Minnesota win. She scored 23 of her 27 points in the second half, outscoring Purdue by herself (23-21) in the final two quarters. She also scored 14 points in the fourth quarter alone, the highest scoring total by a Gopher in any quarter this year. Pitts was an ultra-efficient 10-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 on 3-pointers, while also making 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Her 10 made field goals were a career best, and she also tied a season high with seven rebounds.

In a 97-67 blowout of Penn State Sunday, Pitts registered her third straight 20-point game as she led all scorers with 22 points, including 17 points in the first half. She also dished out a career-high six assists. After scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter last Thursday at Purdue, Pitts followed with 13 points in the first quarter Sunday, giving her 27 points in a two-quarter span. Those two quarters are the highest scoring quarters for any Gopher this year.

In her last eight games, Pitts is averaging 19.8 points per contest while shooting 44.1 percent from 3-point range.

For the season, she is averaging 14.7 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Pitts currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten in 3-pointers made per game (2.3), fifth in 3-point percentage (35.5) and minutes played per game (34.4), eighth in free throw percentage (79.4) and 10th in scoring.

Pitts' honor is her second of the year and the seventh for the Gophers this year. She was recognized on Dec. 10 , while Kenisha Bell was also named to the Honor Roll on Feb. 11Dec. 24Dec. 3 and Nov. 26Taiye Bello earned a spot on Nov. 19.

Minnesota (19-7, 8-7 Big Ten) is back in action Thursday night at Maryland. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT on BTN Plus.
