Despite a ninth-inning rally, the University of Minnesota baseball team fell, 7-5, to Dallas Baptist, today in Dallas Texas. Sam Thoresen was credited with the loss when he allowed four runs, none of which were earned. He had seven strikeouts and six walks in 92 pitches. DBU's MD Johnson picked up his second win when he went six innings and allowed three earned runs. Minnesota had five pitchers see action, while DBU utilized three in the win.

Minnesota put up two runs in the top of the third when Wilhite hit a home run over the right field fence. Wassel got on base when he singled to left and stole second. In just his sixth at bat as a Golden Gopher, Wilhite connected on the first pitch he saw and hit the Gophers' third home run of the season. His home run also marked the first collegiate hit of his young career.
After stranding runners in both the first and second, the Patriots put up five runs in the bottom of the fourth and took a 5-2 lead. The Gophers committed two errors in the inning, while DBU walked four times and had two hits.
The Gophers got a run back in the fifth when Ben Mezzenga scored off an Eli Wilson sacrifice fly. DBU, however, got the run right back when the Patriots also scored a runner on the sac fly to make it 6-3.
DBU added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. With two runners on the corners, a ball up the middle went off Meyer and trickled to short as a play could not be made. .
The Gophers, however, didn't go away quietly. With two outs, Zack Raabe walked, while Mezzenga reached on an error. A single from Meyer scored Raabe. Wilson followed with a single of his own as Mezzenga came around to score. The back-to-back singles pulled the Gophers within two. However, with the two outs already in place, DBU got one more strikeout to end the game as the rally fell short.
