Minnesota Prepares for Doubleheader

2/7/2019 2:52:00 PM | Tennis

On Friday, Feb. 8, 2019 the Gophers will host neighbors, Northern Iowa and South Dakota for a doubleheader match-up at Baseline Tennis Center. Fresh off their first Courtside Classic tournament victory in program history, the University of Minnesota women's tennis team sets to compete in their last home series of February against the Panthers and Coyotes before six-straight road matches.

Earlier in the fall tournament season, the Gophers hosted both the Panthers and Coyotes for the annual Gopher Invitational where they only fell in one match Northern Iowa to finish the four-day tournament with a 45-14 record. Since the program has been recognized as an NCAA member, the Gophers have yet to drop a regular season match to either team.

"Every opponent on our schedule this year is tough and you just have to be ready" head coach Catrina Thompson said. "Doubleheaders are never easy and it is a lot of tennis in one day, but it also makes us tougher as a team so we just have to make sure we are constantly regrouping and taking care of our bodies."
