TEMPE, Ariz. - The Gopher Men's Tennis program was awarded for their efforts in the classroom for the 2018-19 season on Thursday, receiving 2019 All-Academic Team and Scholar Athlete honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Individual Scholar Athlete awards were handed out to sophomore Kaleb Dobbs and junior Eli Ogilvy while the Maroon and Gold received it's sixth consecutive ITA All-Academic Team award.
The ITA awards All-Academic Team honors to programs that maintain a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above on a 4.00 scale when factoring in all varsity letter winners during the current academic year (2018-19). The Scholar Athlete Award is bestowed upon any player who meets a set of three criteria: earning a varsity letter, holding a GPA of at least 3.50 during the current academic year, and being enrolled at their present institution for at least two semesters.
This marks the second straight season that Eli Ogilvy has received Scholar Athlete honors from the ITA, while Kaleb Dobbs was named an ITA Scholar Athlete for the first time in his career with the Golden Gophers. Ogilvy plans to graduate next spring with a major in physiology and Dobbs is preparing to enter his third season with the team, majoring in psychology.
