DMR Wins on Day One in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The women's distance medley relay team led the way with a win on Friday as the Golden Gopher track & field team opened this weekend's competition at the Rod McCravy Memorial hosted by the University of Kentucky.
Women's Highlights
The distance medley relay team of Anastasia Korzenowski, Kelli Schmidt, Sophie Schmitz, and Tate Sweeney clocked a season-opening time of 11:37.61, the fastest mark in the Big Ten Conference so far this season, for the win at the meet. The Gophers also had the runner-up DMR team in Lindsey Greenlund, Molly Roach, Libby Halbmaier, and Abby Kohut-Jackson in 11:44.00.
Other top performances on the track saw Val Larson secure a third-place finish in the 600 meters in 1:31.21 and Amira Young place seventh in the 200 meters (24.03 seconds).
In the field events, Hannah Morris used a season-best mark of 5.90 meters (19-04.25 ft.) to lead the Gophers in long jump with a fifth-place finish while Lexi Kiefer cleared 3.75 meters (12-03.50 ft.) to finish sixth in pole vault. In weight throw, Nayoka Clunis and Tess Keyzers led the team with season-best marks to land among the top seven at the meet. Clunis threw 21.37 meters (70-01.50 ft.) for sixth place while Keyzers posted a mark of 20.57 meters (67-06.00 ft.) for seventh place.
In addition, Young, Akilah Lewis, and Octavia Cato advanced to Saturday's semifinal heats in the 60-meter dash while Rachel Schow clocked a season-best time of 8.58 seconds to move on to the 60-meter hurdles semifinals.

The Gopher men posted four runner-up finishes to open up the Rod McCravy Memorial on Friday including one of the best long jumps in program history from Mason Roomes.
The redshirt junior cleared a career best of 7.63 meters (25-00.50 ft.) to claim second in the men's long jump – jumping Roomes from 10th up to second in University of Minnesota history. Only Keita Cline – a two-time Olympian, two-time All-American and five-time Big Ten champion – has jumped farther as a member of the Maroon & Gold at 7.97 meters (26-01.75 ft.). Newcomer Erik Eckleben finished fourth at 7.39 meters (24-03.00 ft.)
Meanwhile, Jon Nerdal posted a second-place performance in the men's weight throw, one of three top-10 finishes in the event for the Gophers. The redshirt junior recorded a personal record of 21.32 meters (69-11.50 ft.) to move up to sixth all-time at the University of Minnesota with Kaleb Siekmeier besting his own personal record at 20.92 meters (68-07.75 ft.) while remaining in ninth all-time at the 'U'. Connor Rousemiller finished 10th for Minnesota at 19.64 meters (64-05.25 ft.).
The Gophers also picked up runner-up finishes from Hunter Lucas, Matthew Baker, Seth Eliason and Khalid Hussein in the men's distance medley relay at 10:06.57 (Minnesota's first race of the year) and Ben Psicihulis in the men's 600 meters at 1:18.11 while Collin Sieffert finished seventh at 1:20.22.
The Maroon & Gold added a pair of top-10 finishes in the men's high jump as Noah Cvetnic came in fifth at 2.01 meters (6-07.00 ft.) and Michael Burke finished ninth at 1.96 meters (6-05.00 ft.)
