Minnesota Earns Five Wins at Jack Johnson Classic

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track & field program combined for five titles over the weekend at the Jack Johnson Classic as the men claimed three titles while the women added two titles at the two-day event, hosted at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse on campus.
Men's Highlights
Ben Gucinski and Jon Nerdal tallied event wins in the men's high jump and the men's weight throw, respectively, while Nate Hoglund won the men's 200 meters as an unattached competitor.
Gucinski picked up his first high jump win of the year with a personal record of 2.10 meters (6-10.75 ft.) while Minnesota alum Nick Bachinski was the runner-up.
Nerdal added his second weight throw title of the year at 21.04 meters (69-00.50 ft.) to pace a total of five Gophers in the top 10. Kieran McKeag finished third in the event with Kaleb Siekmeier coming in fourth. Unattached competitor Kostas Zaltos was sixth, and Connor Rousemiller added an eight-place finish in the event.
Competing unattached, Hoglund added a win in the 200 meters at 22.33.
Meanwhile, Teddy Frid and Ben Ose closed out the heptathlon in second and third, respectively, while leading the field in all three events on Saturday. Frid totaled 5,539 points over the two-day competition and paced the competition in the 60-meter hurdles and the 1,000 meters. Ose posted 5,530 points and led the pole vault with Frid following in second place.
Additionally, Kion Benjamin finished as the runnerpup in the 60 meters with a time of 6.85 -- Minnesota's fastest time of the season in the discipline. Shane Streich added a second-place finish in the 800 meters. Mike Herauf also picked up a third-place finish in the men's pole vault as did the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Marquez Clerveauz, Jade Reicks, Luke Pingel and Grant Wittman -- all competing unattached.
Gophers All-American alum and national champion Obsa Ali won the men's mile at 4:07.17.
Women's Highlights
Ashley Ramacher and Jaycie Thomsen won event titles to lead the Gopher women on day two at the Jack Johnson Classic. Ramacher won women's high jump by clearing 1.71 meters (5-07.25 ft.) for her second high jump title of the season, and Thomsen won the 5,000 meters in a career-best 17:00.23.
The Gophers came away with third place in each of the throwing events. Nayoka Clunis led the Maroon & Gold in women's weight throw with a third-place throw of 20.98 meters (68-10.00 ft.) while Devia Brown finsihed third in women's shot put with a mark of 15.87 meters (52-01.00 ft.).
On the track, Maria Eastman (5,000 meters), Olivia Hummel (3,000 meters), Molly Reeves (200 meters), and Julia Hayes (60-meter hurdles) all earned runner-up finishes. Other top performances saw Sarah Werking (5,000 meters), Natalie Windels (600 meters), and Nicole Buchinger (200 meters) come in third in their respective events.

Ayesha Champagnie was the top collegiate finisher in the pentathlon with a career-best score of 4,091 points, good for third in Minnesota history. In addition, Lexi Kiefer finished as runner-up in women's pole vault with a season-best mark of 3.82 meters on day one at the Jack Johnson Classic on Friday.
