Minnesota travels to the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational along with athletes competing locally at the UST Showcase this week.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Golden Gopher track & field program remains on the road this weekend, splitting the squad at three meets with athletes set to compete at the Iowa State Classic, the Tyson Invitational, and the St. Thomas Showcase this Friday and Saturday.

About the Iowa State Classic
Members of the team are set to compete at the Iowa State Classic this weekend. Competition begins at 12 p.m. CT both Friday and Saturday at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center in Ames, Iowa. The Iowa State Classic will be broadcast live exclusively on Flotrack.org.

About the Tyson Invitational
Arkansas is set to host the Tyson Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The tentative schedule has action set to begin at 1 p.m. CT Friday and 10:30 a.m. CT Saturday. Friday's portion of the Tyson Invitational will be available on SEC Network +. The Gophers will face competition from Albany, Arkansas, Arkansas Baptist, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Baylor, Coffeyville CC, Colorado, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Louisville, LSU, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina A&T, Northern Colorado, Northwestern State, Oklahoma, Paradise Valley, Rutgers, Stephen F. Austin, and Wichita State.

About the St. Thomas Showcase
Members of the Gophers track & field team will compete locally at the St. Thomas Showcase Meet​​​​​​​ this Friday at UST's Anderson Athletic & Recreation Complex in St. Paul, Minn.

Last Time Out: Meyo Invitational
The University of Minnesota closed out the Meyo Invitational with a total of eight event titles. The women won five event titles and posted eight all-time top-10 marks. Amira Young led the women with two event titles in the 60 meters and 200 meters while Abby Kohut-Jackson (3,000 meters) and Janielle Josephs (unseeded 400 meters) were also victorious on the track and Nayoka Clunis took home top honors in weight throw. On the men's side, Mike Herauf (pole vault), Mason Roomes (long jump) and Jackson Wellenstein (400 meters) won their respective events. Roomes cleared another personal record of 7.71 meters (25-03.50 ft.), and he continues to chase Keita Cline's school record of 7.97 meters (26-01.75 ft.) set in 1995.

Week Three National Rankings
The Gopher women once again checked in at No. 13 in the country while the Minnesota men climbed three places to No. 22 in the nation according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) week three NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Rating Index.

Track & Field Captains
On the men's side, Alec Basten, Kieran McKeag, Jackson Wellenstein, Teddy Frid, and Jonathan Tharaldsen will lead the squad in 2020 while Rachel Schow, Ayesha Champagnie, Erin Huls, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Ryan Crotty, and Val Larson will serve as captains on the women's side.

2019 Track & Field Season Rewind
The Gophers wrapped up the 2019 track & field season with six All-Americans at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships led by two First Team All-Americans in Obsa Ali (3,000-meter steeplechase) and Temi Ogunrinde (hammer throw). Second Team All-America nods went to Alec Basten (3,000-meter steeplechase), Bethany Hasz (5,000-meter run), Tess Keyzers (shot put), and Kieran McKeag (hammer throw). The Minnesota women finished fifth at the 2019 Big Ten Conference Outdoor Championships while the men came in eighth in the team standings.

Indoor Records Fall
The Gopher women have already set all-time top-10 marks in 11 events this season, led by Bethany Hasz and Megan Hasz both breaking Minnesota's previous program record in the 5,000-meter run and Amira Young setting a new record in the 200 meters. Meanwhile, the Gopher men have set all-time top-10 marks in eight events this season.
