Gophers Close Out ISU Classic, Tyson Invitational

Members of the Gophers track & field team were in action at the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational on Saturday.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track & field team wrapped up this weekend's competition with day two at the Iowa State Classic and the Tyson Invitational on Saturday.

Iowa State Classic - Day Two Highlights 
A pair of 800 meter personal records highlighted the second day of competition at the Iowa State Classic on the men's side as Dawson LaRance and Shane Streich posted top-five finishes for the Maroon & Gold. The duo, who finished third and fifth in the finals, actually flipped spots on Minnesota's all-time top-10 list with LaRance moving up to ninth at 1:49.47 and Streich moving back to 10th at 1:49.62 despite both runners posting their best marks in a Gophers uniform. 

The 4x400 meter relay team of Collin Sieffert, Josh Tracy, Grant Fuller and Ben Ose closed out the weekend for the Gophers with a runner-up showing and a time of 3:15.95 while Minnesota added two more top-10 finishes in the men's high jump with Michael Burke coming in fourth at 2.12 meters (6-11.50 ft.) and Noah Cvetnic tying for eighth at 2.03 meters (6-08.00 ft.) and a third in Teddy Frid's fifth-place performance in the men's 60-meter dash finals at 8.13. 

The Maroon & Gold added two more personal records in the men's mile with Jordan MacIntosh clocking a 4:06.50 and Hunter Lucas running 4:10.50. 

Abby Kohut-Jackson led four Gophers with PRs in the women's mile, finishing fourth and moving into eighth in Gophers' history with a time of 4:41.85. Anastasia Korzenowski (4:49.33), Lindsey Greenlund (4:51.39), and Tate Sweeney (4:51.91) all clocked career-best times as well. 

Minnesota's 4x400-meter relay team of Kayla Vogt, Lauren Hansen, Molly Roach, and Sophie Schmitz finished third. Hansen also took fifth in the 200 meters with a career-best time of 25.20 seconds, and Schmitz posted a career-best time of 2:09.16 to place 16th and lead Minnesota in the 800 meters.

Other top performances for the women on day two in Ames, Iowa, saw Julia Hayes tie her PR of 8.85 seconds for seventh place in the women's 60-meter hurdles while Lexi Kiefer cleared 3.88 meters (12-08.75 ft.) for sixth place in women's pole vault. 

Tyson Invitational - Day Two Highlights
Sammie Houston continued an impressive redshirt senior campaign with another personal record for the Maroon & Gold on Saturday. Houston finished fourth in the Tyson Invitational men's triple jump invitational – moreover his performance of 15.83 meters (51-11.25 ft.) moved the redshirt senior up to third all-time at the University of Minnesota.
 
Newcomer Kion Benjamin also added a personal record of 21.89 in the men's 200 meters – tying for the Gophers' best time of the season. 

Minnesota's 4x400 meter relay squad of Elliott Davis, Jackson Wellenstein, Jonathan Webb and Ben Psicihulis came in seventh with a time of 3:10.42. 

The Gophers' 4x400-meter relay team of Jayla Campbell, Rachel Schow, Val Larson, and Janielle Josephs ran a season-best time of 3:40.53 to rank 10th in Minnesota history and place ninth at the Tyson Invitational on day two of the meet.

The second day of competition in Fayetteville, Ark., also saw Amira Young finish 10th in the seeded section of the women's 200 meters in 23.87 seconds while Lexi Romero ran a career-best time of 24.29 seconds to place 11th in the unseeded sections; Romero's time moved her into seventh on Minnesota's all-time top-10 list. Lorean Murray placed eighth in women's triple jump with a mark of 12.27m (40-03.25) on day two in Arkansas as well.
