Minnesota Takes on Big 5s At Elevate The Stage

The No. 7 University of Minnesota Women's Gymnastics team will travel to Toledo, Ohio for the Big 5s at Elevate the Stage. The Gophers will compete against No. 9 Michigan, No. 24 Maryland, Penn State and Michigan State on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET).

Minnesota will compete for the Big Ten Regular Season Championship. The Gophers last won the Regular season title in 2016. The Maroon and Gold will start off with a bye and will move to floor - vault - bars - beam. This event will be podium style and held at the Huntington Center.

Last Time Out
In front of almost 3,000 fans, the Gophers recorded a 197.400 to mark the second-highest team score at Maturi Pavilion. The Gophers had record performances on bars and beam, scoring a 49.500 on both. Every Gopher in the bars and beam lineup hit 9.800+.

Lexy Ramler took away the all-around title (39.625), while Ona Loper was second (39.500) and Tiaree Sales was third (39.375). Ramler earned the beam and bars title, and Loper took first on floor. 

Gophers in the Rankings
Minnesota enters week seven as the No. 7 team in the nation. This is the fourth time in program history, and second time this season, the Gophers have been ranked No. 7. The team checks in at No. 20 on floor, No. 11 on vault, No. 10 on bars and second on beam.

Loper climbs up one spot in the overall rankings, coming in at No. 12, and stays at No. 22 on vault. Sales is 17th overall and seventh on beam. Ivy Lu is also ranked on beam and comes in at No. 20. Ramler is back in the top-25 overall at No. 23 and is tied for sixth on bars. 

B1G Rankings
Minnesota and Michigan are both tied for first within the conference with a 5-0 record. Maryland and Michigan State are tied for third, both going 3-2 in conference action, and Penn State (2-3) is fifth.

The Gophers are the top ranked Big Ten team in the most recent Road to Nationals poll, coming in at No. 7, and hold the highest team score with a 197.400.

Minnesota is ranked first in the Big Ten on Road to Nationals with an average of 196.879. They are No. 3 on vault (49.117 Avg.), No. 2 on bars (49.238 Avg.), No. 1 on bars (49.442 Avg.) and No. 4 on floor (49.083 Avg.).

Loper ranks third in the conference on vault, fourth on floor and first in the all-around. Ramler is first in bars and Sales is first on beam and third overall.

Beam Queens
Minnesota comes in at No. 2 in the nation on beam, trailing Florida. The two teams have been flip-flopping between first and second for the last four weeks.

The Gophers have been the No.1 team on beam twice this season and still hold the highest score among all teams with 49.700.

The Gophers posted the fourth-highest score on beam against Nebraska with a 49.500. At Ohio State, Minnesota recorded a 49.600 for the third-highest score in program history, with four Gophers scoring a 9.925 or higher. 

Earlier this season, Ramler became the third Gopher in program history to record a perfect 10 on beam at the Rutgers quad meet, joining Ivy Lu and Hanna Nordquist to accomplish this.

In the first home meet of the season, the junior accomplished something no Gopher gymnast had ever done - record a perfect 10 in Maturi Pavilion. She scored her second perfect 10 in two weeks in front of her home crowd. No Gopher has ever recorded multiple perfect 10s, on any event, during their time at Minnesota. Ramler is also the only gymnast in the nation to have multiple perfect 10s on beam so far this season.
 
Record Setting Gophers
For the second time this season, the Gophers have hit 197.400. The team's 197.400 against Nebraska was the second-highest team score recorded at Maturi Pavilion in program history.

Minnesota's 49.500 on bars and beam this past weekend rank in the top-10 all-time in program history. 

The Maroon and Gold had three record-setting performances at Ohio State. In their first rotation of the night, the bars team put up a 49.500 on the event to move into second place all-time.After setting the program record on beam with a 49.700 at the Rutgers Quad meet, Minnesota put up the third-highest beam score in program history at OSU with a 49.600. Finally, the Gophers put up the fourth-highest team score in program history with a score of 197.400.

Minnesota earned a No. 7 national ranking for the second time this season. The Gophers have been ranked in the top-10 for six consecutive weeks in 2020. This is the first time the Maroon and Gold have spent six straightweeks in the top-10. The longest amount of time Minnesota has spent in the top-10, was seven straight weeks in 1999.

In their first meet of the season, Minnesota posted their best opening meet team score since women's gymnastics became an NCAA sport in 1982, recording 196.475 points at Denver.

B1G Weekly Honors
Ramler was named the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week after her stellar performance against Nebraska. Ramler's 9.975 on bars ties both her career-high and the program record. She was close to earning her first perfect 10 on the event, being awarded a 10.00 and a 9.95 from the judges. The success continued on to beam, where she shined once again. Ramler's perfect routine earned a 10.00 and 9.95 from the judges.

Scouting Michigan
Michigan is ranked No. 9 in the NCAA, averaging a team score of 196.813 with a high score of 197.350. They are ranked No. 2 on vault, No. 7 on bars, No. 8 on floor and 12th on bars.

Michigan is the reigning Big Ten Regular Season Champions, winning the title with a 197.750. The Wolverines are coming off a 196.800-195.975 win over Iowa this past weekend.

Scouting Michigan State
Michigan State is ranked 31st overall, averaging a team score of 195.171 with a high score of 196.550. The Spartans are No. 19 on floor, No. 15 on beam, No. 43 on bars and No. 31 on vault.

Scouting Penn State
The Nittany Lions come in at No. 29 overall in the latest Road to Nationals poll. The team has an average team score of 195.205 and a high of 196.325. They are ranked 15th on bars, 33rd on bars, 28th on vault and 42nd on floor.

Scouting Maryland
Maryland is ranked No. 24 as a team in the NCAA. They have a team high of 196.150 and are averaging a score of 195.388. The team is ranked No. 20 on vault, No. 22 on bars, No. 40 on beam and No. 28 on floor.
