Minnesota Sweeps Marquette 4-0

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota women's tennis team closed out the weekend with a 4-0 "clinch-clinch" win over Big East foe Marquette today at Baseline Tennis Center. With this win, Minnesota improves their record to 6-2 with a five game win-streak. They are also undefeated at home, sweeping their last four opponents.
DOUBLES
Minnesota would clinch the doubles point over Marquette to gain an early lead. Finishing first was the tandem of Juliet Zhang and River Hart. In the No. 3 spot, they won over Tiana Windbuchler and Milica Novakovic 6-3. Tiffany Huber and Cammy Frei would fall in a close 6-4 match. To win the point, Dalila Said and Ekin Ercetin would down Elisabeth Desmarais and Giulia Turconi 6-2.
SINGLES
Following a hard fought battle in doubles, the Gophers were quick to run up the score during singles play. Playing a "clinch-clinch" format, River Hart, Juliet Zhang and Ekin Ercetin won their respective singles matches to end the match early and sweep the Golden Eagles 4-0.
NOTABLE
The win over Marquette improves Minnesota's record to 6-2, with an undefeated record at home. This is the first time since 2015 that the Gophers have accumulated a five game win-streak that they will look to continue at home next weekend.
QUOTABLE
"The team has been working really hard and they know we are a really good team at home," said head coach Catrina Thompson. "At home there is such confidence we have when we're out there. If we do our jobs on each court, they're going to give themselves a chance to be successful."
