Milicevic Earns All-Conference Recognition, Troost Receives Sportsmanship Award

The University of Minnesota men's tennis team had two players recognized by the Big Ten when today's season awards were announced.

Gopher men's tennis senior Stefan Milicevic earned All-Big Ten recognition today, as the conference announced that he is one of the twelve First-Team selections for the Big Ten following a shortened season in which Milicevic collected a total of 14 singles victories and four wins in doubles play.

This marks the second time that the Belgrade, Serbia native has earned All-Conference praise, having been named to the All-Big Ten Second-Team his junior year with the team. Milicevic wrapped up his career with the Maroon & Gold having secured a total of 81 career singles wins and 41 career doubles wins. At the season's sudden end, he was ranked as the No. 54 singles player in collegiate tennis according to the ITA.

Some of Milicevic's most impressive victories came this season playing in the team's No. 1 singles position, earning a total of three ranked wins during the spring season. The most notable of these wins came against Joseph Guillin of UC Santa Barbara, who was ranked as the No. 8 singles player in the nation at the time. This victory helped Milicevic secure the team's first ever Big Ten Athlete of the Week Award since 2017 for the week of Feb. 25.

Also receiving recognition from the Big Ten was freshman Siim Troost, who was named as Minnesota's Big Ten Sportsmanship award winner. In his first year with the Gophers, he was able to reach 14 singles and 12 doubles wins playing in the No. 3 singles position and No. 1 doubles position for the team. The Big Ten Sportsmanship Award is handed out to one member of each of the conference's member schools who has distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. In addition, the student must be in good academic standing and must have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the sports-competition setting.
