IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Abigail Schaaffe and Amira Young each won their second individual titles of the weekend to lead the Golden Gophers track & field team
on day two at Iowa's Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Saturday. The Maroon & Gold wrapped up the two-day meet with eight event titles.

The Minnesota women won the team title with 129.50 points ahead of runner-up Nebraska with 91 points while the Gopher men finished fourth with 66 points. The Gophers faced Big Ten Conference competition from host Iowa, Illinois, Nebraska, and Wisconsin at the five-team meet.

Schaaffe clocked a winning time of 55.53 seconds in the 400 meters after winning the 600 meters on Friday night while Young added the 60-meter crown to her 200-meter title from Friday. She ran a time of 7.35 seconds to secure her second title of the meet and her second 60-meter crown of the season in as many races. Schaaffe also anchored Minnesota's winning 4x400-meter relay team with Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, and Val Larson, which posted a season-best time of 3:40.93.

The Gopher men also added another event win on Saturday as Ekhardt Van der Watt finished first in pole vault with a career-best mark of 5.05m (16-06.75 ft.). Mike Herauf finished as pole vault runner-up as well, clearing a season-best 4.90m (16-00.75 ft.).

On the women's side, two Gophers climbed up Minnesota's all-time top-10 ranks in Saturday's field events. Tiera Robinson-Jones made her triple jump debut for the Maroon & Gold with a runner-up mark of 12.19m (40-00.00 ft.), good for 10th in program history, while Lexy Berger cleared 3.95m (12-11.50 ft.) to finish as pole vault runner-up and also rank 10th among all-time Gophers.

Quotable
"I thought we handled ourselves pretty well this week coming off our first week of school," director of track & field and cross country Matt Bingle said. "Moving forward, we have to rise up and understand what we have to do for each other. The athletes' improvements moving forward will be based on their willingness to sacrifice and focus for one another. We have to be all in on being great people and great students."
