Minnesota is slated to compete at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships and the Illini B1G Multi-Meet this week.

MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota track & field and cross country program is slated to compete at the Big Ten Cross Country Championships and the Illini B1G Multi-Meet this week.

About the B1G Cross Country Championships
The Big Ten Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday, January 30, at the Blue River Cross Country Venue at Blue River Memorial Park in Shelbyville, Ind. The women's 6K race will take place at 11:30 a.m. CT, and the men's 8K race will take place at 1 p.m. CT. The awards ceremony is expected to begin at 2 p.m. CT. Both races will be covered live on BTN+ with linear coverage to follow at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 6. There will be no fans allowed at the event.

About the Illini B1G Multi-Meet
The Illini B1G Multi Meet will take place at the University of Illinois Armory Track and Floor beginning at 1 p.m. CT Friday and 10 a.m. CT Saturday. Allison Gerads, Hannah Arason, and Ashley Ramacher will compete in the women's pentathlon while Wyatt Lubarski and Alexander Jung will compete in the men's heptathlon.

National Rankings
The University of Minnesota women rank No. 11 and the Gopher men rank No. 23 in week one of the NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field National Track & Field Rating Index, which was released on Monday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). On the cross country side, the Minnesota women rank No. 12 in the nation according to the latest USTFCCCA National Coaches' Poll, heading into this weekend's B1G Championships.

Last Time Out
The Gophers wrapped up the two-day Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa with eight event titles. The Minnesota women won the team title with 129.50 points ahead of runner-up Nebraska with 91 points while the Gopher men finished fourth with 66 points. Amira Young (60 meters and 200 meters) and Abigail Schaaffe (400 meters and 600 meters) each won two titles to lead the Gophers; Schaaffe teamed up with Jayla Campbell, Janielle Josephs, and Val Larson on the winning 4x400-meter relay team as well. Minnesota swept the weight throw titles for the second-straight week as Tess Keyzers and Kaleb Siekmeier were victorious, and Ekhardt Van der Watt won men's pole vault to round out the Gophers' event champions.

Weekly Awards
The Gophers have secured three weekly awards this season as Bethany Hasz and Alec Basten were honored for their performances at the season-opening Hawkeye Border Battle. Hasz was named both the USTFCCCA National Track Athlete of the Week and Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week following her performance in the 3,000 meters while Basten was named B1G Co-Track Athlete of the Week after clocking a career-best 4:03.36 mile at the Hawkeye Border Battle to move into eighth in Gophers' history.

All-Time Top-10 Debuts
Three Gophers debuted on Minnesota's all-time top-10 lists at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational. Tiera Robinson-Jones made her triple jump debut for the Maroon & Gold with a runner-up showing at the meet, posting a mark of 12.19m (40-00.00 ft.), good for 10th in program history. Likewise, Lexy Berger cleared 3.95m (12-11.50 ft.) to finish as pole vault runner-up and also moved into 10th among all-time Gophers. On the track, Abigail Schaaffe debuted at sixth on Minnesota's all-time top-10 list for 600 meters with a time of 1:30.99.

Program-Best Sprints
Amira Young improved on her own Minnesota indoor program record in the 200 meters, clocking a career-best time of 23.61 seconds at the Husker Triangular and improving on her previous best of 23.64 set at the 2020 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Fellow sprinter Kion Benjamin moved up Minnesota's all-time ranks in the 60 meters with his career-best time of 6.73 (6.725) at the Husker Triangular as well; he climbed from 10th to fifth on the Gophers' all-time list.

All-Time Top-10 Miles
Alec Basten and Owen Hoeft both clocked all-time top-10 mile times with PRs at the Hawkeye Border Battle. Basten ran 4:03.36 for eighth among all-time Gophers while Hoeft was runner-up in 4:03.54 for ninth in program history.

Cross Country Captains
On the women's side, Sam Baer, Abby Kohut-Jackson, Tate Sweeney, and Jaycie Thomsen are this year's team captains while Alec Basten and Owen Hoeft lead the men's cross country team as co-captains. 

Track & Field Captains
