Meet Preview: Gophers Host Iowa to Open 2021 Season
1/28/2021 2:26:00 PM | Men's Gymnastics
The Minnesota men's gymnastics team will officially open its season this Saturday, January 30 at 6 p.m. against the Iowa Hawkeyes at Matrui Pavilion.
The Gophers entered the season ranked as the No. 8 team in the nation in the CGA Preseason Coaches Poll, with the Hawkeyes coming in at No. 10 in that same poll. The meet marks the 2021 season opener for Iowa as well.
"It's hard to believe we're about to start up this season after all that's happened since the last time we competed back in March," head coach Mike Burns said. "My hat goes off to all of the medical personnel that have created so many protocols to allow us to have a season. Thanks to them and the Big Ten Conference who helped get us to where we are now. Let the games begin!"
This is the first chance to watch either of the Maroon & Gold's two new freshmen faces, Noah Duran and Evan Ng, as well as see some of the many familiar faces of the Gopher Men's Gymnastics team.
Not only do the Gophers have three of their four CGA All-American honorees returning to the squad for 2021, including Shane Wiskus, Mike Moran, and David Pochinka, but sophomore Crew Bold has also been tabbed by the Big Ten Conference as a Gymnast to Watch for the 2021 season.
Led by captains Wiskus, Henry Meeker, and Tyler Davis, Minnesota's upperclassmen heavy roster will look to use their experience to carry them into the eventual NCAA Championships, which will be held in Minneapolis, Minn. later this year.
Saturday's meet against Iowa will not be open to the general public, but a stream will be available for fans to watch on BTN+ with live stats available at the links provided above. Fans can also follow the Minnesota men's gymnastics Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram pages.
