MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 6/29 University of Minnesota cross country program will return home this Friday, Oct. 22 to host Jack's Twilight Run. The race, which is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. CT at Les Bolstad Golf Course, is open to the public, and anyone wishing to compete can register through the link listed above.
ABOUT JACK'S TWILIGHT RUN
Jack's Twilight Run features a route looped through Les Bolstad Course where local runners and cross country fans alike are invited to experience cross country running firsthand at the home of the Gophers. Participation in the race is $20, and all proceeds from the race go toward the Jack Johnson Scholarship. Registration is open now, and will close on Friday, Oct. 22 at 12:00 p.m. CT.
Jack's Run honors the late Minnesota equipment manager Jack Johnson. Johnson will always be a part of the Minnesota women's cross country and track programs. After serving as the Golden Gophers' equipment manager for over three decades, Johnson passed away in February 2006 after a battle with cancer.
LAST TIME OUT
Both sides of the Gophers had arguably their best performances of the season in their last time out at the Nuttycombe Invitational in Madison last Friday. The women kicked the day off for Minnesota with a fourth place team finish (188 points) behind a trio of top-15 finishes from Bethany Hasz (sixth), Abby Kohut-Jackson (10th) and Megan Hasz (14th). Anastasia Korzenowski and Jaycie Thomsen rounded out the scoring for the women with 48th and 112th place finishes, respectively.
The men were led by Alec Basten, who put together a 12th place finish in a time of 23:37.7 to finish as the third-fastest Big Ten Conference athlete of the race. Matt Wilkinson and Jack Manderscheid followed Basten with 83rd and 103rd place finishes, respectively. Ethan Cannon put together a personal-best time of 24:34.5 to finish 109th, and Owen Hoeft rounded out the scoring in 113th. The men finished 15th of the 32 teams in attendance with 416 points, beating out five nationally ranked teams in the process.
UP NEXT: BIG TENS
Friday's home meet will be Minnesota's last time out before the Big Ten Championships, which will be hosted by Penn State on Friday, Oct. 29. The women's race is slated to begin at 9:45 a.m. CT, with the men to follow at 10:45 a.m. CT.
