MINNEAPOLIS – Minnesota senior Angus Flanagan is set to compete in his second PGA Tour event this weekend at the Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles.

On Monday, Flanagan won a three-hole playoff at the Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase to earn an exemption into this weekend's tournament.

"If I played well (at the Showcase) I knew I could make it," Flanagan said. "I've been preparing a couple weeks prior. I was hitting balls on TrackMan making sure I was hitting a draw and a fade because that's kind of what Riviera sets up for; you have to shape it both ways."

One of two amateurs in the field, Flanagan will now tee off on Thursday morning on the front nine at 10:19 CT along with Willie Mack III and John Augenstein.

Golf Channel will have coverage on Thursday and Friday from 1-5 p.m., while PGA Tour Live will feature certain groups from 8:45 a.m. to 7 p.m. Golf Channel coverage resumes Saturday and Sunday from 12-2 p.m., while CBS will finish each day from 2-5:30 p.m. PGA Tour Live will once again have featured groups from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. The service will also cover featured holes from 2-5 p.m. on the final two days of the tournament.

It'll be a star-studded field that Flanagan joins as seven of the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking have been announced as participating. Among the notables scheduled to compete are Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, Bryson DeChambeau, Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth and Rickie Fowler.

Flanagan, who made his PGA Tour debut this summer at the 3M Open, has gotten advice from some of the top golfers in the world this week as Denny McCarthy played with Flanagan during Monday's showcase, and those two then played a practice round Tuesday with Spieth and Alex Noren.

"It's just surreal for me to be out here looking up to guys, seeing Jordan win The Masters and winning majors, and then I'm out here playing a practice round with him," Flanagan said.

In addition to members of the PGA Tour, Flanagan will have a familiar face with him on the bag this weekend with head coach Justin Smith.

"I'm around him every day," Smith said. "I've seen him perform at the highest level in college, knowing his tendencies and being in that arena, just shedding some light. But what I say a lot of times the best coaching you can do with Angus is to not coach at all. He's that good."
