Grace Zumwinkle scored a hat trick to lead No. 4 Minnesota to a 6-1 win over Bemidji State on Friday night.

BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The No. 4 University of Minnesota women's hockey team skated to a 6-1 victory over Bemidji State in game one of this weekend's WCHA series at the Sanford Center on Friday night. Grace Zumwinkle led the Golden Gophers with four points, including her third career hat trick,Ā and 11 different players recorded points for the Maroon & Gold.

Minnesota (10-7-1, 10-7-1 WCHA) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening 20 minutes behind goals from Crystalyn Hengler, Zumwinkle, and Abigail Boreen, and Abbey Murphy extended the lead to four in the opening four minutes of the middle frame. BSU got on the board when Taylor Nelson scored the Beavers' lone goal late in the second period, but Zumwinkle answered for the Gophers with her second of the game to push the lead back to four at 5-1. Zumwinkle capped off her hat trick with her 15th goal of the season at the 12:59 mark of the third period.Ā

Bemidji State (2-13-2, 2-13-2 WCHA) got 15 saves on 20 shots fromĀ Kerigan Dowhy over the game's opening 40 minutes before Lexi Baker made five saves on six shots in the third period. Lauren Bench made 15 saves for the Maroon & Gold, facing her former Beaver teammates, and Minnesota had a 26-16 advantage in shots on goal.

Both teams were scoreless on the power play. The Gophers were 0-for-2 while holding the Beavers to 0-for-3 with the skater advantage.

Quotable
"Good win on the road here, it's nice to get back on track," head coach Brad Frost said. "Obviously a great start, getting three there in the first and then continuing to build the lead. I'm proud of our team. They stayed with it here for 60 minutes and got a good win on the road. Zummy with the hat trick -- she was on the receiving end of some beautiful plays there. I'm happy for herĀ and looking forward to tomorrow."

Notable
With herĀ hat trick against the Beavers, Zumwinkle made her way onto Minnesota's all-time top-10 scoring list. She is now tied for 10th in program history with 82 career goals, matching Emily West's career total from 2007-08 to 2011-12. Zumwinkle is now chasing ninth-ranked Gigi Marvin, who scored 87 career goals for the Gophers from 2005-06 to 2008-09.

Up Next
Minnesota and Bemidji State meet in game two of this weekend's series at 3:07 p.m. CT Saturday, marking the Gophers' final game of the regular season.
