Gophers Win Seven Titles

Amira Young led the Gophers with wins in the 60 meters and 200 meters at the Husker Quad on Saturday.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Amira Young led the Maroon & Gold with wins in both the 60 meters and 200 meters as the Golden Gopher track & field program took home seven event titles while facing Big Ten Conference foes Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois at the Husker Quad on Saturday.
Young led the way as the Maroon & Gold took the top two places in both of the short sprints. She won her third title of the season in both events, clocking a winning time of 7.42 seconds in the 60m and improving on her own Minnesota indoor program record in the 200m with a time of 23.42 seconds. Lexi Romero finished as runner-up in both events as the Maroon & Gold duo dominated their fellow B1G sprinters.
Janielle Josephs, Abigail Schaaffe, and Grant Fuller also picked up titles on the track for Minnesota. Josephs won the women's 400 meters in a season-best 54.93 seconds while Schaaffe recorded a career-best time of 1:29.32 to win the women's 600 meters and move into fifth in program history. On the men's side, Grant Fuller won the 600 meters in a career-best 1:19.64. Val Larson (women's 600 meters), Kion Benjamin (men's 60 meters), and Ben Psicihulis (men's 400 meters) all finished as runners-up in their respective events as well.
In the field events, Devia Brown and Tess Keyzers swept the women's throwing titles. Brown won her first shot put title of the year with a season-best throw of 16.14m (52-11.50) while Keyzers picked up her third weight throw title of the year with a mark of 19.85m (65-01.50). Kaleb Siekmeier led the Gopher men in the throwing events with a runner-up showing in weight throw with a mark of 20.99m (68-10.50).
Other top performances in the field events saw Tiera Robinson-Jones finish as women's triple jump runner-up, and Ekhardt Van der Watt (men's pole vault) and Samantha Spencer (women's pole vault) each secured third-place finishes.
