Gavin Young wins USTA Spring Nationals

The freshman dominates high-profile national tournament
MOBILE, AL - Freshman Gavin Young won the USTA Level I Spring Individual Championships in dominant fashion over the past weekend, going 6-0 without losing a single set throughout the four-day event.
The junior-level tournament, which took place from March 6-March 9 at Mobile Tennis Center, was not a part of the collegiate schedule, and Young competed unattached from the University of Minnesota.
Young, who was the fifth-seeded competitor in the bracket, rolled through the first round of the tournament winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, before moving onto the round of 32 with another impressive 6-1, 6-1 victory.
Onto the round of 16, Gavin faced a bit of a tougher test in the tournament's ninth-seed, but was still able to secure a straight-set victory by a score of 6-2, 7-5.
In the quarterfinals, the true freshman took out the fourth-seed 6-4, 6-4, before heading to the semifinals where he defeated his opponent 6-3, 6-2.
Squaring off against the tournament's sixth-seed in the finals, Young capped off his dominant weekend, winning his finals match 6-4, 6-1.
