MINNEAPOLIS – A school-record 114 University of Minnesota student-athletes were recognized as Academic All-Big Ten honorees for the winter season on Wednesday. Eight Gophers programs contributed to the achievement.
To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten merits, student-athletes must be on a varsity team, have been enrolled full time at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
Women's swimming & diving led the way for winter accolades with 21 selections while men's swimming & diving and men's hockey each boasted 19 honorees. Wrestling (15), men's gymnastics (14), women's gymnastics (13), women's basketball (seven) and men's basketball (six) were also recognized by the conference.
Hunt Conroy (men's basketball) and Ona Loper (women's gymnastics) recorded unblemished 4.0 cumulative grade point averages as graduate students at the University of Minnesota.
Today's announcement adds to a stellar academic showing for Minnesota student-athletes despite unconventional learning circumstances this academic year.
