Gophers Fall 6-1 versus Big Ten Rival OSU

MINNEAPOLIS - The University of Minnesota men's tennis program fell Friday afternoon to the visiting No. 12 Ohio State Buckeyes by a final score of 1-6.
Today's loss dropped the Gophers to 4-4 on the season, while the Buckeyes improved to 10-2. Despite the loss, Minnesota still holds a 4-2 record over their last six contests.
DOUBLES PLAY
Double's play was the highlight of the day for the Maroon and Gold, where the pairings of Jackson Allen & Sebastian Vile and Siim Troost & Vlad Lobak both secured ranked wins. Lobak and Troost took home the most impressive win of the day by knocking off the No. 4 pairing of John McNally and Robert Cash 6-3, while Allen and Vile topped the Buckeyes' No. 51 ranked pairing of Cannon Kingsley and Kyle Seelig 7-5.
The Gophers' pairing of Daniel Martin and Bodin Zarkovic fell to Justin Boulais and JJ Tracy in the third doubles play match, 2-6.
SINGLES PLAY
All six Gophers fell in singles play during Friday's contest, with five of six decided in straight sets.
The sole Gopher to reach the third set was redshirt-sophomore Dylan Heap. Heap opened the match with an impressive 6-3 win before dropping the second game 2-6. He would ultimately fall in the final set in a match tiebreak, 8-10.
Allen, Lobak, Troost, Vile and Martin were all defeated in straight sets.
NOTABLE
Siim Troost and Vlad Lobak now have three ranked victories on the season after topping No. 4 McNally/Cash during doubles play. The win brought their career record to 4-1 against ranked pairings.

The Gophers will continue on their four game home stretch Sunday, when they take on the Penn State Nittany Lions at the Baseline Tennis Center. Action will begin at 11:00 a.m. CT.
