Minnesota returned to outdoor track & field competition at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #1 this weekend.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- The Golden Gopher track & field program returned to outdoor competition by winning two events and setting five all-time top-10 marks at the Big Ten Indiana Invite #1 at Indiana's Billy Hayes Track & Field Complex this weekend.

"We're glad to be back competing on an outdoor track again," director of track & field/cross country Matt Bingle said. "We feel blessed to be back at it. We got a lot of good opening-weekend performances from many people. We have a lot of work to do, but we're looking forward to getting better each week."

Kostas Zaltos took home top honors in men's hammer throw and Carissa Dock won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase to lead the Maroon & Gold. In his first outdoor competition for the Gophers, Zaltos recorded a mark of 64.80m (212-07) to win the meet and debut at eighth in Minnesota history. Meanwhile, Dock posted a winning time of 10:47.30, just shy of her career best (10:46.58) to pace the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase field.

Devia Brown and Tiera Robinson-Jones also posted all-time top-10 marks in their first outdoor competitions for the Maroon & Gold on Saturday. Brown finished as women's shot put runner-up and debuted at third on Minnesota's all-time list with a mark of 16.54m (54-03.25) while Robinson-Jones finished second in women's triple jump with a mark of 12.75m (41-10.00), good for fifth in program history.

The Gophers secured three runner-up showings in the sprints behind solid season-opening races from Kion Benjamin and Janielle Josephs. Benjamin clocked a time of 10.51 seconds to finish second in the men's 100-meter dash and added another runner-up showing in the men's 200 meters in a career-best 21.08 seconds, good for 10th among all-time Gophers. Meanwhile, Josephs finished as women's 200-meter runner-up in a career-best 24.01 to rank eighth in Minnesota history.

In addition, Yahya Madar (men's high jump), Collin Sieffert (men's 400-meter hurdles), and Sophie Schmitz (women's 800 meters) finished as runner-up in their respective events for the Maroon & Gold.

Minnesota continues its outdoor campaign at the Big Ten North Florida Invitational next Friday, April 2 and Saturday, April 3 in Jacksonville, Fla.
