The Minnesota men's gymnastics team took home their first victory of the season 404.300-398.250 against the No. 5 ranked Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. The Gophers were also able to capture four out of six team event titles, the highest amount they've won so far this season.
Notable
In senior Shane Wiskus' return to the Maroon & Gold, he was able to capture a total of three individual event titles on floor exercise, parallel bars, and high bar, along with the all-around title with a score of 84.050.
Quotable
"I'm really excited about the performance of our guys tonight," head coach Mike Burns said. "They really stepped up, and having Shane back in the lineup obviously didn't hurt our team score at all. It was good to just pretty much have a full team back on the floor, and there was just really good energy from all of the guys tonight. Lots of positive energy out there, and that drives a lot of really good things. They put on a show."
All-Around
Shane Wiskus was the lone gymnast to compete in the all-around competition, and he was able to put up a score of 84.050, which ranks as the third highest all-around score in the nation so far this year.
Floor Exercise
To open the competition for the Gophers, the Maroon & Gold saw a personal best by Danny Yoon of 13.650 and an event title winning 14.800 from Shane Wiskus to spark the team early. Big performances by Colton Dee and Mike Moran added on to help the Gophers clinch the team event title.
