Gophers Fall to Northwestern in 5-2 Loss

Minnesota will head to Illinois on Sunday afternoon

EVANSTON, Ill. - The University of Minnesota fell to the 47th-ranked Northwestern Wildcats by a score of 5-2 on Friday night. The Wildcats made quick work of doubles play, and clinched the match by winning the first four matches in singles play

The Gophers will drop to 7-5 on the season as they will head to Illinois on Sunday afternoon, while Northwestern will move on to 9-5 on the year. 

Doubles Play
Northwestern clinched the doubles point by winning the first two doubles matches of the evening. The Gopher pairing of Vlad Lobak and Bodin Zarkovic lost 6-1 in their match, while Siim Troost and Daniel Martin fell in a competitive 7-6 contest. 

Jackson Allen and Sebastian Vile proved to be a bright spot in doubles play as they were leading 6-5 over No. 7 doubles pairing of Nick Brookes and Simen Bratholm, however the match went unfinished after the Wildcats clinched the doubles point

Singles Play
The Maroon & Gold's struggles continued in singles play, as they fell in the first four singles matches to allow Northwestern to secure the victory. 

Daniel Martin and Vlad Lobak fell in straight sets in their matches, while Jackson Allen and Siim Troost pushed their matches to three sets before ultimately being defeated. 

Sebastian Vile put the Gophers on the board by winning his three-set match in the tiebreaker. Dylan Heap won a retired match after Heap took the second set.

The Gophers will travel to Urbana-Champaign to take on the Illinois Fighting Illini on Sunday afternoon, before heading to Wisconsin next weekend for a rematch against the Badgers
