• Minnesota closed out the home season last weekend when No. 19 Michigan came to town. The Golden Gophers dropped three of four, but took the series finale (7-3) on senior day. ABOUT PENN STATE
• With no Big Ten Tournament this year, the Penn State series marks the end of the regular season. Minnesota enters the final week of play with a 26-10 record, while the Nittany Lions are 6-31 this year. In the 2021 season, all Big Ten teams played a conference-only slate.Â
• Minnesota has not faced Penn State since the 2018 season. The Golden Gophers also closed out the 2018 Big Ten regular season against the Nittany Lions that year too. Minnesota hosted Penn State that season, and took two-of-three in the three-game series. In the series finale, Amber Fiser also got the win when she allowed just two hits in that game en route to an 8-0 Gopher win.Â
• Penn State played two games already this week as it faced Michigan State on Tuesday. The Spartans and Nittany Lions split a two-game series. Bailey Parshall has seen the most action in the circle for PSU. She has appeared in 20 games and holds a 2.83 ERA, 83 strikeouts and seven complete games. Kylee Lingenfelter has appeared in 16 games and holds a 4.20 ERA.  Ally Kurland has played in 34 games and is hitting .229 in 83 at bats and four home runs.Â
WHAT'S NEXT
• Minnesota awaits to see if it's one of 64 teams selected to the NCAA Tournament. Selection Sunday announcement will be held at 8 p.m., on ESPN2. Should Minnesota advance to the NCAA Tournament, it would be the Golden Gophers' 15th appearance. The Gophers advanced to the Women's College World Series in 2019. Â
