Gophers Compete on NCAA Day Two

Tess Keyzers and Teddy Frid competed in finals in their respective events on Thursday in Eugene, Ore.
EUGENE, Ore. -- Day two at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships saw Teddy Frid and Tess Keyzers compete in finals for their respective events to lead the Golden Gopher track & field program at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Frid finished 14th in the decathlon with 7,330 points, just shy of his career-best score of 7,482 set earlier this season at the Big Ten Championships. Frid's top finishes on day two saw him place fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:34.74 and finish sixth in the pole vault by clearing 4.71m (15-05.50 ft.). His highest scoring event was the 110-meter hurdles where he picked up 875 points with an eighth-place showing in 14.79 seconds. Frid also finished 12th in the decathlon discus (38.53m, 126-05 ft.) and 16th in the decathlon javelin (44.16m, 144-10 ft.).
Keyzers recorded a mark of 63.82m (209-04 ft.), her third-best mark of the season, to place 21st in the women's hammer throw in the other event final for the Maroon & Gold on Thursday.
Semifinal action on the track saw Abby Kohut-Jackson advance to the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase final. Kohut-Jackson clocked a career-best time of 9:41.20 to improve on her own Minnesota program record in the event and place fifth in her heat to automatically advance to Saturday's final.Â
Gophers Janielle Josephs, Val Larson, Jayla Campbell, and Abigail Schaaffe closed out the night with a 12th-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay semifinals, clocking a time of 3:36.20.
Action continues at the NCAA Championships on Friday and Saturday. Phillipe Barnett (men's discus), Kaleb Siekmeier (men's discus), Alec Basten (men's 3,000-meter steeplechase), Shelby Frank (women's discus), Bethany Hasz (5,000 meters), and Kohut-Jackson (women's 3,000-meter steeplechase) make up Minnesota's remaining NCAA competitors.Â
