Minnesota Finishes Up Play at Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota women's tennis wrapped up play in their home invitational on Sunday afternoon. The tournament played out over the course of the three days, and featured student-athletes from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Drake, Gonzaga, and Iowa State. The Gophers had continued success throughout the weekend, boasting a doubles record of 20-5, and a singles record of 22-5.
Doubles Play
The Gophers rotating pairings fared well across the three day tournament, winning 80% of their matches played. The 20-5 overall record saw six separate pairings take home 2-0 days, thus winning their respective groups. Standout performers included Maria Rizzolo, Dalila Said, Lucy Lu, and Zeyneb Sarioglan; each going 5-0 in their doubles matches across the weekend.
Singles Play
Minnesota continued their home success in the singles portion of the tournament. Their consistent victories were evident not only by the 22-4 record, but also by 5 players going 3-0 on the weekend. Emilee Duong, Ekin Ercetin, Anfisa Danilchenko, and Zeyneb Sarioglan all went undefeated across their group play, ending with 3 wins each. Joining them in a spotless weekend was Rachel Hanford, who backed up her national rank of #89, en route to a 3-0 Invitational. This weekend marks a bright start to the fall tournament season for the Gophers in Minneapolis.
